Invoice & Receipt for Sports Team Transport

This is a copy of an invoice and receipt from E. Davies of Llwydcoed for coach transport of a school rugby team to Swansea. The master in charge is recorded as R.V. Hoggins, and he probably had charge of one of the school teams. The date of the match was Saturday, February 6tth, 1937.

Ronald Victor Hoggins was the school’s teacher of commercial subjects, which included shorthand and bookkeeping, as well as Economics. Known to the boys as ‘Steve’, R.V. Hoggins came to the school from Dudley in 1920 having previously taught at Wolverhampton and Moseley in Birmingham. His two sons Dennis and Bryan were educated at the school, but Dennis was a casualty in World War 2 and died in 1942 at the age of 20, just three years after leaving school.

‘Steve’ is pictured in the 1938 school photograph on this website, and can also be seen in a sports team photograph on the Rhondda Cynon Tâf Libraries Digital Archive, (put Hoggins in the Search Box)

Mr Hoggins suffered a stroke and died aged 44 in 1943 whilst still a member of the staff.
