Ceiriog is champion
House

ALTHOUGH the weather was not promising, all the events but one in the Girls’ Grammar School annual sports on Tuesday week were held out of doors. One heavy shower meant a hurried exodus from the field, but the events were completed in good time

Coun. James Lynch, one of the governors, presented the prizes, and was introduced by Dr. D. L. Graham, the headmistress.

The winning house was Ceiriog with 818 points; Goronwy had 777; Islwyn 661; and Alafon 643. Points gained for entry before sports’ day were Goronwy 592; Islwyn 576; Ceiriog 568; and Alafon 463.

The senior champion was Marjorie Jones (A); middle school champion, Pamela Couzens (G); and junior champion, Christine Edwards (C).

House relay, senior: 1, Ceiriog; 2, Alafon; 3, Islwyn.

House relay, middle and junior: 1, Ceiriog; 2, Alafon; 3, Goronwy.

Best senior form at gym and games was 5R, and the best junior form 1B. The Guide shield was won by the Poppy Patrol.

Top house for games during the year was Alafon, with Ceiriog second, and Goronwy third.

Notes

Mary Moyle came from Oak Row, Cwmbach

Joan Henry made frequent appearances in School Sports results. She was brought up in Wenallt Road, Abernant, and married Colin Vater in 1955. They set up home in Bodheulog, Abernant Road.

Christine Edwards became Head of P.E. at the Aberdare Girls’ Grammar School. She married Ken Griffiths who was a pupil and later taught at Aberdare Boys’ Grammar School.

Monica Forrest was a member of the ‘Young Little Theatre Players’.

Rosalind George was brought up in Maelgwyn Terrace. She married John Lloyd in 1961.
