Miss Dorothy Jessie Charlotte Rees, (1892-1980), was from Maesydre in Aberdare, and
was educated at the County School in Trecynon, 1904-10.
She gained an honours degree in French from U.C.W. Aberystwyth, (1910–1913), and
was appointed to the Girls’ County School in September 1917 to teach French,
as well as Latin, History and English. She stayed at the school until December
1945; later marrying Johannes Johan Schaaf in 1952.
Miss Rees’s maternal grandfather was the photographer J. Lendon Berry, and her
sister Mrs Florence Rose Davies, CBE,
was the first woman to lead the old Glamorgan
County Council.
