The book is a collection of letters written by Terry Johns to various individuals spanning the years from just after he left school in 1962 until 2011. The first letter in the book is one written to his school music master J. Gethin Evans. There are many others, including ones to his school English master Garfield Griffiths, and to his school friend, and pianist, Robert M. Jones, (‘Sargy’).

Terry Johns attended ABGS from 1955 to 1962. He lived at 11 Baptist Place, Hirwaun and was the son of a miner. He made an early start in music and played in a local brass band. At school he was also known by his initials K.T., and later on in his youth orchestra days as ‘Drac’. He won a Glamorgan Senior Instrumental Scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Music in London. He quickly became a French Horn player of international repute.

Terry is present in the 1957 panoramic photograph in which all boys are numbered. He is No. 106. For further information about Terry’s career, see his entry in the Former Pupils section of this website.

The author is preparing a second volume of ‘Letters’ for publication in the near future.
