The Kipps Apparatus depicted on this page should be familiar to all pupils who took chemistry at the school. Famously, it was used to generate hydrogen sulphide gas — that smells of rotten eggs! The waste gases were vented from the fume cupboard via a grill above the entrance to the main Trecynon school building in the upper playground. No doubt the teachers in Room 8 and 9 were only too aware of the presence of the apparatus!
