Idris Jones, 1900–1968, attended Aberdare Boys’ County School 1912–1917, and became Headmaster of Mountain Ash Grammar School.
He wrote the first edition of this book
in 1934 when he was an examiner in history for the Central Welsh Board
in Cardiff, though living near Doncaster when he was Deputy Headmaster
at Thorne Grammar School.
There followed reprints and at least two further editions containing new
and updated material which enabled the book to justify the word ‘Modern’ in its title. The second and third editions were written when the author was in post at Mountain Ash, and the later reprints issued when he had retired.
Idris Jones has an entry in the Former Pupils section of this website.
