Derek Aust attended Aberdare Boys’ County Grammar School 1957–1964, and proceeded to U.C. Cardiff where he graduated in Italian. He became a lecturer at the South Devon Technical College. Whilst there he was, in his early days, an active football player. He is married and lives in south Devon.

Derek has written several books, almost all concerned with learning the Italian language. Some also include aspects of Italian life and culture.

Derek attended the 2004 reunion, and he is included in some of the photographs of this event to be found in the Reunion section of this website.
