SCHOOL GALA

THE annual swimming gala of the Aberdare Boys’ Grammar School, held on Wednesday week, was outstanding for the keen spirit of competition in all the events. The standard of performance, especially of the diving, was very high, and the Park Baths were crowded with spectators enjoying good sport on a fine and sunny afternoon.

The winning house was Tudur (acting-captain, Gwyn Jenkins) with 46 points; Llewellyn were second with 25; and Dewi third with 23; Penri were fourth with five.

Mrs. W. D. Towler, Llwydcoed (past captain of Cardiff Ladies’ Swimming Club) and wife of a member of the staff, judged the diving and the best swimming-style event, and presented the David Bowen cup to Leonard Williams, winner of the school championship.

The past students’ squadron, comprising D. J. Williams and D. Davies, beat the school squadron by a yard.

Organiser was Mr. E. J. Excell, sports master, and chief judge was Mr. E. Ceredig Jones, assisted by members of the staff. Recorders were Messrs. T. R. James and E. J. Davies and Miss M. Smith.
