ABERDARE GRAMMAR SCHOOL FIRST XV gained a narrow 10-8 victory in their biennial fixture with the Bec School, London.

In heavy conditions at Aberaman Park the game was surprisingly open with both sets of backs handling well. Aberdare took an early lead when B. Mills crossed after the whole Aberdare back division had handled. P. Evans converted.

Bec cut the deficit with an unconverted try but Aberdare struck back through A. Powell, P. Evans again converting. Bec rallied in the second half and scored a late converted try to make the final score 10-8.

It would be unfair to name anyone as outstanding since this was a real team victory for Aberdare.

The second XV lost 9-0 to Bec in a match played on a waterlogged field in driving rain.
