There is no indication on this photograph of date or of names of the players. School
House is in the background.
Seated extreme left : Mr E.J. Excell (Games Master); Seated
extreme right : Mr Walter Charlton Cox (Headmaster)
Mr Excell was appointed in 1922 and since he seems here to appear younger than
he does in all his other photographs, the date must be close to his first arrival at
the school.
(This is also about the only time Mr Excell appears in a school photograph when
he is smiling!)
If this photograph is of the 1922-23 season, which was Mr. Excell’s
first, the boys who gained caps for the season were as follows, and may therefore be
present in the photograph:
