ANNUAL ATHLETIC SPORTS.
ABERDARE BOY’S COUNTY SCHOOL.
The above were held on the School Field, Robertstown, last Thursday in cool and delightful weather. There was a good attendance, and the arrangements were excellent. The events were very keenly contested, especially the inter-district re-lay race, & the 880 yards handicap. The Victor Ludorum was Trevor Jenkins (VIa.) who gained the championship with 11 points; runner-up, G. Humphreys, 7 points.
The events were as follows:—
100 yards scratch race, 1 G. Humphreys; 2 David Williams.
100 yards junior handicap, 1 Clifford Edwards; 2 D. P. Jones.
100 yards handicap (open), 1 David Williams; 2 G. Humphreys.
High Jump (junior), 1 E. M. Evans (height 4tt. 2ins); 2 T. J, Rowlands.
220 yards handicap, 1 Trevor Jenkins; 2 David Williams; 3 R. J. Rosser.
Throwing the cricket ball, Gethin Rees.
Long jump (senior), 1 J. D. Jones; 2 Glyndwr Jones.
440 yards handicap, 1 Trevor Jenkins; 2 David Williams; 3 Cliff Edwards.

Inter-district re-lay race, 1 Cwmaman and Godreaman team; team—Trevor Jenkins (captain), G. Humphreys, D. P. Jones, Trevor Sanger.
Hop, step and jump (junior), 1 R. V. Thomas; 2 Merfyn Jones.
300 yards scratch, 1 Trevor Jenkins; 2 G. Humphreys.
Chariot race, 1st team, R. J. Rosser, J. G. Jones, C. Day, and D. Price.
100 yards hurdles, scratch, 1 David Williams; 2 Ralph Stevens.
Staff race (handicap), 1 Mr. W. R. Williams, B.Sc.
Past students’ race, 1 Mr. Norman Berry.
880 yards handicap, 1 T. Barling; 2 Trevor Jenkins; 3 David Williams.
The proceeds are to be devoted to the School Pavilion Fund. Mr. T. Marchant Harries, C.C., distributed the prizes.
The sports officials were:—President, The Headmaster; judges, Messrs. T. Marchant Harries, R. D. Williams, Illtyd Williams, W. D. Morris, J. Clarke, W. M. Llewellyn, M.E., J.P., E. O. Williams, W. R. Williams, L. Thomas, Ceredig Jones; stewards, Messrs. A. W. Elliott, D. T. Davies, W. Towler, J. T. Bowen, R. V. Hoggins, E. J. L. Grear; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. C. Knight; starters and handicappers, Mr. Aubrey Roberts and Mr. E. J. Excell (sports master); timekeeper, Mr. B. Reynolds. The sports were organised in a business-like manner by Mr. Excell.
The Victor Ludorum, Trevor Jenkins (1908–1977), was brought up in Fforchaman Rd, Cwmaman, and attended the school 1920–26. He became a teacher and eventually Director of Education for the old Glamorgan County Council, 1963–1972. He was guest speaker at the 1964 Certificate Ceremony at the Coliseum.
