Aberdare Boys’ Grammar School

Group of Five circa 1920

school building

from Alun C. Davies

Fifth Form 1919

This group of five waistcoated boys dates from around 1920.
At least three of them also appear in the Form 5, 1919 photograph, looking a little younger.
In the centre of the back row is David Herbert Davies (ABCS 1915-20) who later became a primary school Headmaster in Cwmdare.
The location of the photograph is the lower playground with the boys looking towards the upper playground;
the window on the left is that of the shower room. The chalked cricket stumps on the wall,
remained an almost permanent feature and were in much the same position in the mid-1960s.
