This is a photograph taken from the Cwmbach Mountain on July 10th, 2015 of the ‘old’ school. By this time the school was empty with all pupils and staff having relocated to the new Aberdare Community School at the Ynys.
The old Boys’ School, lower and upper school buildings, is
extreme bottom right. Directly above this is the old Further Education College, now
called Coleg y Cymoedd, Aberdare Campus. Above this, partly obscured by trees, is Maesgwyn
School, a school for children with moderate learning difficulties. The long row of houses
bottom left is Broncynon Terrace. Nant Melyn Farm is top left and a part of the very
large open-cast workings above Hirwaun can be seen top right.
