The Certificates: The Higher Certificate was taken at around 18 years; the Senior Certificate at around 16 years. The Supplementary Stage was taken at the end of the first year in the sixth form, but unlike the other stages could be taken in separate subjects.

- John Winston Evans, of Belmont Terrace, left school in 1927 for the University of Birmingham.
- Henry Austin Roberts, of Windsor Terrace, left school in 1927 for U.C. Cardiff having won a Rees Llewellyn Scholarship
- Ivan Norcliffe Stevenson, of St Joseph’s Terrace, left school in 1927 for Carmarthen Teacher Training College.
- John Glyndwr Thomas, of Llewellyn Street, left school in 1928 for UCW Aberystwyth.
- Charles Merlin Williams came from Oxford Street on the Gadlys.
- John Charles Williams, of Station Road, Hirwaun, left school in 1927 for U.C. Cardiff, with two Scholarships from Breconshire.
- Howell Wyndham Davies of Werfa Cottage, Cwmbach, became a school teacher in both the UK and Australia. He married Rhiannon Lewis, daughter of Ted Lewis the famous conductor of choral music from Cwmaman. The tumultuous life of Howell and Rhiannon is described in much detail in the book Wales The Beloved Country: Where there’s a will, there’s a way, an autobiography written by Rhiannon Davies, published by Chifley, (1999). The book is available in some libraries, but secondhand copies are generally to be found in Australia only.
- Alwyn Evans, lived in Mountain Road, Cwmaman and became Head Teacher at Glynhafod Junior School.
- Aneurin Hughes Evans, from Wind Street, left school in 1929 for U.C. Cardiff, with a G.C.C. Exhibition.
- Glyn Ivor John became the Aberdare Town Librarian. He served as librarian in three of its locations: at ‘Chews Shop’, High St (now demolished), opposite St John the Baptist Church; at Siloa Hall (1949-1963), also now demolished; and from 1963 at the library where it now stands. Glyn retired in 1972 and died in 1993.
- David William Jones, of Jubilee Road, left school in 1928 when his family emigrated to Australia.
- Walter T Morgan, worked in the National Library of Wales. See the Former Pupils section of this website.
- Leonard Morris of Unity Street, left in 1927 to work at Selfridges in London.
- Idris Phillips travelled up from Oddfellows Street, Glynneath. He left school in 1927 for U.C. Swansea, seven years after it was established.
- Jacob Glyndwr Picton of Clive Place, Trecynon, left school in 1929 for the University of Birmingham.
- James Mansel John, became a preacher, college tutor and broadcaster. See the Former Pupils section of this website.
- John Aubrey Reynolds lived in The Morning Star in Ynysllwyd Street. He left school in 1930 for U.C. Cardiff.
- Margaret Elizabeth Abraham was from Brynmair Road, Godreaman. See the 1931 Aberystwyth student photo on this website.
- Elsie Baker was from George Street, Aberaman.
- Hannah Jones, from Cwmdare, was the daughter of the Rev. James Jones of Elim, and elder sister of Catherine Ellen Jones, (see the 1931 Aberystwyth student photograph), who became Mrs Watts of AGGS. Hannah died as a relatively young woman at the age of 43 years.
- Phyllis Rowlands was from Foreman’s Row, Abernant and worked in Aberdare Hospital laundry.
- Alice Maud Roberts became a school teacher at Aman Secondary School, Godreaman.
