Notes
John Benjamin Davies, M.A. returned to the school in 1945 to teach History and French. He retired as senior History Master in the summer of 1967. He was known to the boys by his nickname of ‘Curly’, although he possessed an almost hairless pate!.
B.C. Erricker became Senior Maths Master at Leyton High School, N.E. London. Two of his books are in the ‘library’ in the Academic Activities section of this website.
R.W. Francis became Senior Physics Master at the school from 1947 to 1959. He left to become Headmaster of Bryn Celynnog Secondary School, Beddau.
Alec Francis Carter went to London University, and had joined the The Hampshire
Regiment by 1930, served in the Signals Corps initially, and
transferred to the new Intelligence Corps on the day it was founded.
He was involved in mapping the beaches of northern France
prior to the D-Day Landings; and then served with the liberating
troops in Belgium and the Netherlands.
He left the Army as Captain, was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal
Geographical Society (FRGS) and taught geography in Hampshire schools
until retirement. He died in May 1989.

E.S. Jenkins worked with J.T. Bowen on his Teach Yourself Welsh book. ESJ wrote two other Teach Yourself books; details of these are also in the ‘library’.
Trevor Jenkins was appointed Director of Education for the County of Glamorgan in September 1963.
Dr Ronald Colin Knight became a Senior Principal Scientific Officer at the Ministry of Defence. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, 1958. He was the son of Mr Frank Knight, the dentist, who lived in Gorphwysfa, Richmond Terrace and practised at this time at 1, Canon Street, Aberdare and at a later date above Liptons. R.C. Knight was captain of the cricket XI in 1925; he left school in 1926 and proceeded to University College London with a Glamorgan County Council Scholarship. He died in Surrey in 1979. (His name in the honours list is reported as Ronald Collingburn Knight.)
Thomas Tegryd Price was the son of headmaster and celebrated local historian, W.W. Price.
Benjamin Samuel lived in Richmond Terrace , Abernant; he became a schoolteacher in Liverpool.
Richard Norman Berry was a son of Richard Lewis Berry, fire captain, town councillor and photographer (Globe Studios). The family lived at 1, Plasdraw Road. R.N. Berry left school in 1924 and proceeded to King’s College London with a Glamorgan C.C. Studentship.

Gwyneth Mary Evans became headteacher of Blaengwawr Primary School
Doris Margaret Jenkins (Dolly) lived in Abernant Road. She became the headteacher of Comin Infants school
Margaret Charlton Cox was the daughter of the Headmaster of the Boys’ County School. She became a doctor.
Kathleen Mary Eschle was member of the family of Jewellers & Watchmakers, Leonard E. Eschle of Victoria Square.
Florence Gwendoline Rees became Professor of Zoology
at UCW Aberystwyth and was elected FRS in 1971. Her career details can be found in
