A brief newspaper report of the Past Students’ Society 1903 Picnic
(later the Past Students’ Association)
Aberdare County School
Past Students Society.
The second annual picnic in connection with the above society took place on Thursday last, July 30th, 1903. In spite of the somewhat threatening weather, a good number of the members of the society and their friends were present, including some of the members of the County School staff.
The party left Victoria Square at 12.15 in the char-a-banc and proceeded to Ystradfellte. A pleasant afternoon was spent here in visiting the caves and other objects of interest in the neighbourhood.
After tea had been partaken of, a meeting of the society was held, the president of the society, Mr W. Jenkyn Thomas, M.A., occupying the chair. At this meeting, Mr E. J. Hughes was appointed an additional secretary of the society, and on the resignation of Mr E. J. Davies from the committee. Mr T. Flooks was elected to fill his place.
Subsequently a visit was paid to the church at Ystradfellte and the party returned home through Pont Neath Vaughan, after a very enjoyable picnic.
