W. Jenkyn Thomas, by 1938, had been retired for three years from his headship at Hackney Downs School. He was the first Headmaster at Aberdare, 1896-1905.
Dr Ezer Griffiths, FRS was in 1938 the most distinguished of the school’s former pupils,1901-06. Brought up in Ann St, Gadlys, he subsequently spent almost the whole of his career at the National Physical Laboratories in Teddington, Middlesex.

T.R. James from Cwmbach should need no introduction. He was a pupil at the school 1922-28; UCW Aberystwyth 1st Class Honours Maths, 1931, Teaching Diploma 1932; mathematics master Ynyslwyd School, Brecon Boys’ County School then at Aberdare 1937-57; LRAM 1952; Headmaster Brynmawr G.S.; Conductor of Cwmbach Male Voice Choir, 1950-58 & 1959-81.
David Arthur Lewis had a fine tenor voice. He was a ‘manual instructor’ in Aberdare from 1928, (in those days meaning, in the case of for boys, handicrafts, woodwork and metalwork), and taught at the Boys’ County School 1936-56. He returned in the autumn term in 1959 after the untimely death of his successor Mr Gwilym Howells who taught at the school 1956 - 59. Mr Gwanwyn Brace took over the subject in January 1960.
