Aberdare Boys Grammar School
Letter about Fourth Year Options, 1957
from Alwyn Griffiths

Towards the end of Form 3, it was time for a pupil and his parents to decide what subjects would be studied for GCE Ordinary Level. The School would issue a letter to parents with the available choices. If a pupil went into 4A, he could do a maximum of one science subject, whereas in 4 alpha he could do a maximum of three.
Alwyn chose 4 alpha. In case you cannot read them, two of the option groups in the right column were as follows: Latin or Technical Drawing; Biology or Geology or Scripture Knowledge or Woodwork. The normal number of subjects taken forward was eight, although some boys took an extra one by special arrangement.
