An application form for a bursary to support study at school
for Elias Morgans of Tudor terrace
Unfortunately Elias, aged 13, did not pass the entrance examination and was never
admitted to the school. The bursary would have offset his school fees, which by 1902
might have increased from the initial rates, set in 1896, of £1.10.0d per term.
But there were other expenses to be met as well, for example purchase of school cap,
books etc. Also to be considered was the loss of earnings had the pupil, at the age
of 14, started employment instead of staying at school.
