The volume in the photograph was used for the entrants in the years 1896 to 1911 inclusive. It is a large book, measuring about 17" x 14" by about 2" deep. In this volume each pupil was entered on one line across a double page spread. The registers that were used after 1911 gave each pupil one page; each page being about foolscap size but in landscape orientation. These pages are bound in six hardcovered volumes, about 15" x 10" by 2½" deep. However, by the late 1920s pupil information is recorded on loose leaf sheets although the format of each is page very similar to the earlier bound records. By the 1940s the format had changed again, this time to foolscap portrait orientation.
The information recorded is fairly minimal. Later records contain the following data: admission number, name, parent name, address, date of birth, date of admission, Form admitted to, Day Scholar or Boarder (but there is no evidence that pupils ever boarded at the school [ed.]), Terms kept i.e. attended, and parental occupation. Earlier records have previous school, and information about school fees and scholarships.
The white label on the volume shown opposite, is a recent addition that simply records the volume number and the range of admissions dates.
In this register, Admission No. 1 is for Isaac David Morgan of 14 Llewellyn St, Trecynon and the last entry is Admission No. 1475 for Dorothy Evans of 1a Stuart Street, Aberdare. Many of the later pages of this register are blank due to the change to a new format after 1911.
