† Trevor Jenkin Mears is wrongly named in school records. His name was Jenkin Trevor
Mears, and appears on the WW2 School Memorial Plaque. Trevor was in the Merchant Navy but is not listed as a casualty by the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission. However, information about him is as follows:
Trevor was a 2nd Mate on the ‘S.S. King Edward’. He died at sea 26th December 1939, aged 31, with cause of death
recorded as ‘Presumed Heart Attack.’ (The King Edward was later, 27 Dec 1942, torpedoed and sunk north-northeast of
the Azores.) At the time of his death, Trevor lived in Redbrink Crescent near the docks in Barry. He attended ABCS
1921–25, and was brought up in Hirwaun where his father was headmaster of Rhigos School. He was the son of William Jenkin
Mears (1871–1930) and Margaretta A. Mears, née Davies, (1877–1925).
All the boys in the list above started school in the autumn of 1921 except for the following:
Roy Jenkin George, Cyril Clarence Thomas Baker, Wilfred Henry Llewellyn Williams, William Henry Hobbs, Gwynfryn John Morgan,
Howard George Badham Milsom, William Coombs, Reginald Charles Augustine Bennett, John Jolliffe Parrish - who all arrived in the
spring term or summer term of 1921.
