THE PLAQUE AND PROGRAMME OF THE CEREMONY COMMEMORATING
THE OPENING OF THE
NEW BUILDING AT CWMDARE ROAD
from Colin Rees & School Archives
This is the commemorative plaque that was unveiled in June 1965, although by then
the school had been functioning in the school for almost a complete academic year.
It is located on the rear wall of the assembly hall.
The opening ceremony was partly religious and partly musical. It was attended by county
councillors and staff, but invitations were issued to parents and pupils also. An invitation
card is shown below.
Some of the guests in a reception after the formal part of the afternoon had
taken place. Mr Morien Morgan, husband of Elaine Morgan, is seen facing the camera
on the far left.
There was a commemorative booklet issued to mark the occasion. Inside are numerous
pictures of county councillors but some pictures of the school and notes about the school’s
history. If you were in the school in about 1965, you may find somebody you know on
the page
‘Interior Scene’, which shows a large number of pupils assembled ready for
lunch in the assembly hall in its dual role as dining hall.
