ABCS 1933 - 1938
Bob was brought up in Margaret St., Aberaman and attended nearby Aberaman Boys’ School. He then went to Ynyslwyd Central School where he had a second attempt at the scholarship examination. Gaining entry to Aberdare Boys’ County School with his brother Ken, who also passed that year, he became a pupil in Form 1A, and Ken a pupil in Form 1B in the autumn term of 1933 on September 19th.
Bob spent almost five years at County (as it was popularly known), working up through the Commercial forms (non-Latin) and finishing with a strong C.W.B. School Certificate in 1937. He also took and passed the Civil Service entry examination.
In 1941 he joined the RAF, serving in Britain and in Burma; he resumed his Civil Service post on demob in mid-1946. In April 1956 he emigrated to Toronto, Canada, and in late 1968 moved west to British Columbia, and still lives about 50 miles east of Vancouver, very close to the U.S. border. Bob was originally a systems engineer for an engineering company specialising in industrial automation, but finally started his own computer-engineering and consulting company in the same field, with contracts locally and in Alberta and with the Federal government in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Bob has provided many items to this site. In particular, he has contributed the only movie we have; he also has an area of his own in the Memories and Memorabilia section.
Sadly, Bob died within a few months of providing this information about himself. He was still busy compiling his memoirs and contributing to this site up to September 2007. He was born January 19th, 1921 at 17 Gwawr St., Blaengwawr, and died on October 8th, 2007, aged 86 in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
