In May 1961, Aberdare hosted the Urdd National Eisteddfod. You can read below the account of the Pageant to proclaim the eisteddfod held at the Coliseum in Trecynon. It was written by Glyn Griffiths of the Aberdare Leader.

The children taking part came from Aberdare, Mountain Ash, Abercynon, Pontypridd, and Ynysybwl. The picture below shows some of those who took part. By holding your mouse over the faces of some these participants you will discover their names. We can identify the following so far:
