Alfred the Great (Hurlstone)

This was the seventh concert in the series. There was a varied programme with the main work a ballad for chorus and orchestra, by William Yeates Hurlstone (1876-1906), (lyrics by F.G. Attenborough). Mr Morgan Lloyd was the leader of the orchestra, which was conducted by Mr P.E. Phillips. The accompanist was Mr T.R. James; there were three soloists: a soprano, an oboist, and from the school, Leonard James (violin).
