Reports of two Grammar School concerts in the early 1960s
These concerts involved
pupils from both the Girls and Boys Grammar Schools and we believe they took
place in 1963 or 1964. They date back to the
time when we were doing A-Level Music and had been abandoned by our teacher Mrs.
Ryan, who left after form 5 to have a baby. They couldn't find a replacement for
her and we poor A-level pupils were pushed from pillar to post, taught by the
occasional student from the Cardiff Music department like Gareth Williams and
Wayne Warlow. When these were not available we would go up to the Boys' School
to Mr. Gethin Evans, and he was more keen on organising concerts with us than
teaching the A-Level syllabus! I remember he used to give us past papers to
puzzle over in the library, and lock us in there so that the boys couldn't get
at us!
Some of us are included in the
Boys' School panoramic photo in 1964.
