A bit of research on the internet suggests that this paper might refer to the book Poo Lorn of the Elephants by Reginald Campbell (about 1930). "Escaped Siamese teak elephant becomes a terror to humanity but saves forest officer from Chinese villain" (quote from Verandah Books!!)
