W. Jenkyn Thomas was the first headmaster
of the school, in post from 1896 until 1905. He wrote this book for
the pupils of higher standards of elementary schools, and for those
in the lower forms of secondary schools in Wales. Written in English,
it is a collection of extracts written by Welshmen or written by a variety
of authors about Wales and Welshmen.
Although Thomas wrote several books, he is best known for his Welsh
Fairy Book, 1913, which is still available from Dover Publications,
ISBN: 0486417115, and from The University of Wales Press, ISBN: 0708312578.
