Phil attended the Grammar School from 1959 to 1964 and played in the 1st XV rugby team in 1964. He lived in Rhigos and was a founder member of the group known as the Zodiacs. The group included a number of other Rhigos boys who attended the school and you can read about it in an article that Phil has written for BBC South East Wales.
