John George Davies
ABGS 1951-1956

circa 2004
John was born in Fishguard in January 1940. After moving east to the South Wales valleys his family lived in Danyderi Street in Godreaman. He attended Aman Junior School and arrived at the grammar school in September 1951. Whilst at the school he was also a member of the St Johns Ambulance Brigade in Aberaman. At the end of the fifth year, he left to take up an apprenticeship at Hoovers in Merthyr Tydfil and Perivale, where he learned engineering skills that would prove invaluable in later life. At the age of 20 he married Clarice Williams from Cwmaman and they were later to bring up three children.
He and his wife emigrated to South Africa in 1964 where they established an engineering business specialising in the fabrication of a variety of metal products. However, in 1989 he changed his business interests completely and bought a poultry farm. They eventually settled near Benoni on the eastern outskirts of Johannesburg.
